Head Lice

There has been some cases of Head Lice in the centre recently . Information has been placed in the pigeon holes. Please check your children carefully and treat if necessary.

New Baby

Congratulations to Edwina and Justin Munt on the birth of Alana Chloe on 11th April . A beautiful little sister for Toby (Mead Room) and Addison.

Langley Room

It was an adventurous week last week in the Langley Room.
We started off making yummy honey joys on Monday with Miss Kerry which were delicious.
Then we enjoyed having a play and picnic in the gym with our teddy bears and enjoying
scrumptious fairy bread.
We made models of our faces out of clay and have had the joy of watching our flowers
grow which we have been planting with Miss Emily.
After our day off we all came to school in our PJ's. We thought we looked pretty good!
We then went for a walk to the rose garden to look for some snails but it was very unsuccessful.
We sang a song along the way "We're going on a snail hunt!"


Thank you Miss Gray for all your help it has been wonderful having you in the room over the
last two weeks. Next Tuesday we will welcome back Miss Jess!

Mead Room

We have had another fun week of holidays in the Mead room. On Monday we played tennis up at the gym. We practiced hitting the balls over the nets, bouncing and then hitting the balls, and also hitting the balls against the walls. We think there are some people on the pro tennis circuit who better be watching their backs…

On Tuesday we had a music day. Some of us brought instruments from home, and others borrowed some from school. First we practiced in small groups out in the town square, and then we did a whole group practice. Once we had perfected our instruments we took our music to the world! Well, to the rest of the school, as we walked around to each of the classes and shared our songs.

We have been enjoying reading the fairy tale The Gingerbread Man, so on Wednesday we baked our own. We followed the recipe and then rolled out the dough and cut out the gingerbread man shapes. We put them in the oven to cook. Luckily, none of our gingerbread men escaped from the oven and ran away, so when they were ready we were able to decorate them, and then eat them- yum!

On Friday we experimented with our senses. We had a smelling table, where we got to sniff lots of different scents and see if we could work them out. We also tasted some different fruits. The lemons and limes made us pull funny faces!

Olympia (sniffing the cocoa powder)- Chocolate!

Jock (eating pomegranate)- It tastes like strawberry, but it’s not.

Angus (eating lemons and limes)- Be very careful because it’s sour.

Henry (eating kohl rabi)- Mmmmmmmmm! More please!

The holidays sure have been fun!

Cooper Room

Last week was yet another week of holiday fun for the Cooper room children.
Monday saw the children turn into tennis champions as they hit many many tennis balls around the gym. We set up tennis nets and the children practiced backhand and volleys with pure enthusiasm and skill. What fantastic hand/eye co-ordination was observed by the educators. Perhaps Wimbledon is calling some of our future tennis champions!

On Tuesday it was Music day and what a terrifc band the Cooper and Mead children made with their instruments. They bought in guitars, recorders, drums and xylophones and walked around the Early Learning Centre, playing beautiful tunes, entertaining all children and staff.

On baking day (Wednesday), the Junior Masterchef Cooper room children participated in making gingerbread men. Mixing, pouring, kneading, rolling and shape making were some of the processes they engaged in to produce yummy, scrummy gingerbread men. As they went into the oven to bake, we kept checking on them- to make sure none of them escaped to sing "Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm a gingerbread man", lucky for us we didn't need to chase any....

On Friday, it was bike bonanza day and bicycles, tricycles and scooters were ridden around our ELC bike track. With excitement and great balance, the Cooper room children had races and followed road safety rules, ensuring themselves and their friends stayed safe.

What a fun filled week.

Chapple Room

Dear Chapple Families,

This week started off with learning about ANZAC Day and having conversations about what the holiday means to us. We watched a special video which was about a Dawn Service in Canberra and watched the soldier play the Last Post on his bugle. We had discussions about Poppies and why we wear them on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. We extended on this by making our own Poppy Field. It's displayed out the front of the Chapple Room, and we loved making it!

We made Anzac biscuits that were delicious. The children were hands on and enjoyed making them. We also took the children for a memorial walk to the school museum and got to witness all the archived memorabilia.

With the holidays coming to an end, we have had a great time and have recharged our batteries, with having lots of outside time and being able to choose our special activities from the store room ourselves. We have loved playing with the cloud dough and the Dinoland in Edgerley Room and having movie days with yummy popcorn!

It’s been a great holiday program and we look forward to starting Term 2 off energized and ready!

Edgerley Room

Dear Edgerley friends and families,

ANZAC Memorial Week was a great week of remembrance, discovery and appreciation of our brave soldiers. The Edgerley children were so keen to find pieces of information on the journey of the soldiers to various military posts.

“Where is Turkey”, Angus curiously asked.

“We can find it on the map!”, Max answered.

“It starts with the TTT like my name!”, Toby added.

As we found Turkey on the map, we were all bewildered as to what the soldiers had to endure to keep Australia and New Zealand safe.

Ms. Veltmeyer showed us how to make poppy flowers using craft materials.

“Maybe they used poppy flowers because it does look pretty” Alyssa commented.

“Yeah! They would look so brave if they wear them on their uniform”, Lily  added.

“They help us remember all the soldiers that didn’t come back to their families”, Fletcher reflected.

“Their mummies and daddies must be sad”, Rocco said.
Our PAC ANZAC Memorial Walk was a great adventure. We went to the main reception to pick up the keys and met Mr. Tutt on the way.

We started our journey to discovery at the PAC Museum. We saw lots of war memorabilia and even found the pin with Simpson and his donkey on it. Great spotting!

We discovered that there were so many PAC boys that went to war and were not lucky to come back to their families.

The best part was writing all our names on the visitors’ book and wrote how great the museum was.

We also checked out the ANZAC Hall and the Memorial stone next to the Chapel.

We had a moment of silence in remembrance of the soldiers and shared more of our ideas.

“Maybe the soldiers really had to  be so brave”, Bayley shared.

“And they had to believe in themselves too”, Amaia added.

“We have to think of them lots”, Finn informed.

“And look after the stone and the Pine tree”, Caleb commented.

We finished the week on a high coming to school with our crazy socks, watching a movie and cooking and eating yummy ANZAC biscuits.

Looking forward to a fun filled term 2.

Hat Policy

Children do not have to wear their hats from May 1st as per our Sun Policy. Feel free to send your child's hat if we have sunny weather after that date and we will ensure they wear it at appropriate times.

Anzac Day

Next Thursday 25th April is Anzac Day and the centre will be closed.

Edgerley Room

Dear Edgerley Families,

Week 1 of the Holidays has been loads of fun for the children and teachers. We started off with our Wacky Hair Day coming to school with our wackiest, craziest and coolest hairstyle adding glitters, gel, feathers, colored hair chalk and even pegs to come up with the best tresses! We sported the mohawk, spikes, plaits and even wigs! As if that wasn't enough fun we also brought our beloved teddies and bedtime friends for a wonderful walk and picnic in the back oval. We shared our fruit under the warm sunshine and went for some running races too. We also learnt a new game from Ms. Renee where we sit in a circle and rolled a ball to and fro trying to touch the leg of the person in the middle. What a cool game that was. 
Indoors, we continued to explore our Dinoland where we learnt about Dinosaur families and species, their food and built homes for them. We also experimented on making Clouddough which turned out to be a great experience. What made it so cool is that we didn't even need to use salt or hot water.
"Oh! Its so gooey!" Rocco said.
"I really like the feel of it" Chloe added
"I can make a cake with it for you Mrs Rocca" Fletcher  offered.

We have also been looking after tadpoles and little snails in a tank and watch them using our magnifying glasses. Lucky the children reminded Mrs Rocca to feed them for the weekend.

At end the week we watched "The Land Before Time" to further explore our interest in Dinosaurs. We watched a group of baby dinosaurs go on a journey to the Great Valley. We had yummy popcorn inside our personlised paper cones. All in all,  it was a great week!

Chapple Room

The holiday program has kicked off this week with lots of enjoyable and exciting experiences . The children were particularly keen to go on a Teddy Bear Picnic so on Wednesday Chapple and Edgerley had an outdoor Morning Tea Teddy Bear Picnic. The children brought along their favourite teddy comforters to join us at snack time. We enjoyed the morning sunshine out on the senior oval and also played some group games - Red Yellow Green, Duck Duck Goose and the Circle Game.

The children have really enjoyed Dinosaur Land and exploring with the life and world of creatures that are now extinct. Many children were interested in reading books about Dinosaurs and this has resulted in conversations, sharing ideas, and new understandings.

Cooper Room

Dear Cooper families and friends,

The holidays have begun and each day we have had an exciting experience for the children.  On Monday we designed and painted the children’s faces into jungle animals. After pretending to be animals inside we took the children into the outside area to run in the bushes before finishing with animal stories and games on our new Samsung tablets. Tuesday saw the children visit the hair dressers shop located in both the town square and Cooper Room, where a variety of coloured sprays, hair chalks and bands were supplied for the children to have new outrageous hair styles! Wednesday was dedicated to gardening and the children planted herbs, flowers and vegetables. Thank you to all the parents who provided gardening equipment and seeds for the children, we will all be nurturing them so they grow.

The movie was very successful on Thursday, and the children enjoyed fresh fruit and popcorn as they watched the Jungle Book. We voted on who was our favourite character in the movie and there was no suprise - Baloo was the firm favourite: who doesn't love a big blue bear? To end the week the children took part in the colour run. On your marks, get set..... so many beautiful colours running across the school oval. It was the Cooper children in blue, green, red and yellow showing how fast they can run. They ran in team colours and as a finale, all the children ran a 'rainbow' race. Each child was presented with a medal for great participation, lovely listening and top effort for joining in with smile!

Mead Room

Wow, what a fun first week of holidays we have had in the Mead class! On Monday we made animal masks and then went and hid in the garden. Miss Sarah and Miss Amelia got into their Jeep and went on safari, hoping to see some wildlife. Well, it proved to be their lucky day as they saw tigers, lions, a crocodile, a giraffe, and even a new hybrid species- the “tiger-lioness” ! Luckily they managed to get a photo of this magnificent creature, which they will consult Sir David Attenborough about when he is in town.

On Tuesday we had a Wacky Hair day. Some of us came to school with crazy hair, while others took advantage of the School Salon and came away with hairstyles that stole the show! We had spiky hair, blue hair, pink hair, gold hair, spotty hair, even hair with feathers in it!

On Wednesday we had a gardening day. We popped on our gloves, got our spades and rakes, and prepared the garden bed before we planted carrots, beetroot, mint, and freesia bulbs. We also planted broccoli seeds in individual pots for us to take home.

On Thursday we had a quiet, relaxing day and watched The Jungle Book and ate popcorn. There was even a tiger in the movie, but he wasn’t as ferocious as some of those seen on safari !

On Friday we came to school dressed in our favourite colours, and then took part in some Colour Runs. We all ran really fast in our colour groups, and then we did a big rainbow run. We all tried so hard that we were awarded gold medals in a medal ceremony that rivalled the Olympics. We wonder what fun things are in store for us next week !
