Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Wilkins Family Picnic last Sunday. It was a great turn out and so much fun was had by all! Thankyou to Cleo and Paola for organising. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Wilkins
Dear Wilkins
families,
This week we have
been busy painting and creating artwork using acrylic paints and our wonderful
imaginations to display on our art gallery wall.
The Wilkins hair
salon has also given us the opportunity to style each other’s hair including
the teachers! We had some crazy looking hair. Through this shared experience
the children practiced their turn taking and communication skills and building
friendships.
Our favourite story
this week has been the gingerbread man. We have been busy role playing the
story using puppets. We have also been discussing how we could make our own
gingerbread men and what ingredients we could use for the eyes, nose and mouth
when we have the chance to bake them during the holidays. Through shared group times we have been doing
lots of singing and dancing where the children have showed much enjoyment
interacting with one another.
As we know it was
the lovely Miss Jess’s last day today before she embarks on another adventure
of parenthood. We will really miss her but cannot wait for her to visit so we
can meet the baby. We wish her all the best.
Lastly, in the lead
up to Christmas and to help make our classroom look merry, if anyone has tinsel
or Christmas decorations that you would like to donate, they would be much
appreciated!
Have a lovely
weekend,
Miss Amy, Miss
Karla and Miss Jess
Dear Langley families and friends,
Over the past couple of weeks, the children have been very keen to
experiment with and mix colours. We set up three jars – 2 with different
coloured water.
Ashlynn – blue
Teddy – bit darkAshvin – it’s yellow
We thought about mixing the two together and made some predictions
about what the new colour might be.
Erin – pink maybe
Sebastian A – brown
Then we eagerly watched as the coloured water was soaked up by
paper towel. Eventually they mixed in the middle to create a new colour.
Poppy – it turned green!
Isaac – it’s green now
The children were fascinated by this experience so we did it again
with yellow and red water. Next week we will add white flowers to our coloured
water jars and we’ll see what happens….
A reminder to please RSVP to Natalie Pettman (Isla’s mum) for the
Langley Family Day (natalie@bigpicturerecruitment.com.au)
December 7th, 2-5pm, Princess Margaret Playground.
Have a fabulous weekend!

Mead
Dear Mead Room families,
Three
more 4 year olds! We’ve celebrated more
birthdays! Happy 4th Birthday
to Cooper, Olive and Ned.
We
celebrated the return of Harry Hall from Hawaii and Loukas from Queensland and more friends have brought their family
photos in and shared some special information with the rest of their Mead Room
friends.
The
discussion soon turned to celebrations that families observe, such as weddings
-
Ned – Mim got married at the
beach. Seb carried the rings.
Clem – I held some flowers
and my big friend held flowers too. I
went somewhere special in Bali.
Sage – I went to a
wedding. I had to wear some work clothes
like Daddy, and I wear a bowtie.
Harry – We went away and the
wedding was away.
There
was special food, and usually a cake, and people generally wear fancy clothes
too!
We
made sand playdough which felt ‘strange and lumpy’ (Doane) and ‘rough’ (Isaac)
and ‘bumpy’ (Oliver), all at the same time.
We trekked up to PE and had fantastic experiences with the parachute and
then Harrison found numbers on a meter on the way back. We had a morning tea picnic on the back oval,
explored natural materials in the Mead Room (creating patterns and structures
with moonstones and wooden offcuts), and followed plans created by Lachlan to
enable everyone to independently create their own mobilo car.
Be
safe and have a great weekend,
Melissa
and Renee
Mattingley
Dear Families and Friends,
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone that came to our
class party. It was a huge success, and we all had a fabulous time celebrating
with you. It was lovely to sit back and reflect on our year by sharing our
photos from the term. There was lots of laughter as the children saw themselves
on the big screen and not too many tears from the teachers.
Coral, Tiarna and I would
like to take this opportunity to thank you all for such a wonderful year. We
appreciate all of the support you have given us and we truly have enjoyed being
a part of your child’s learning journey this year.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
The Mattingley TeamFrom the Front Desk
Holidays
The holidays are fast approaching and will be upon us very soon. Please remember to let us know if your child will be away from the ELC during the holiday break. A "Holiday" sheet is in the sign in/out folders. Please tick/cross the days that apply.
The ELC closes on Friday 19 December at 6pm and re-opens on Monday 5 January at 7.30am.
Nuts
We are a 'nut aware' centre as we have a few children in the ELC who are at risk of anaphylaxis due to a nut allergy. As a precaution could all families please be mindful when bringing food into the ELC that the items do not contain traces of nuts. Thank you for your co-operation.
Festival Photos
I have been told that the photos will be delivered to the ELC next Wednesday 3 December - just in time for Christmas.
The gorgeous Nativity Photos can be viewed on the Festival Photography website. The password is Princes2014.

Angwin
Dear
Angwin Parents and Friends,
We
have recovered from the Nativity and are now in full Christmas mode! We have
been very busy making decorations, Christmas pictures and beautiful angels.
We’ve also been lucky enough to bake some ginger bread decorations. The
children helped measure, pour and eat this delicious treat!
‘I
liked eating my star. It was yummy! The angels and wise men followed the star
to Jesus.’ Lily
‘I
chose an angel. The angel is part of Christmas because they are in the story of
Jesus. They sing so the shepherds can find Jesus.’ Harry P
‘I
chose a human (a ginger bread man). It’s not part of Christmas. We could make
it into Santa Claus or Jesus when he’s a teenager.’ Patrick
‘Jesus
is not a teenager.’ Harry P
‘He’s
an adult when it’s Easter.’ Jarrah
‘Yeah,
but when it’s Christmas, he’s a teenager.’ Patrick
‘I
made a Christmas tree. It’s a decoration. I don’t know why trees are part of
Christmas.’ Jarrah
‘Because
if we didn’t have trees, we wouldn’t have anywhere to hang decorations.’
Patrick
‘You
could hang them on your door.’ Jarrah
We
are also preparing for our Graduation next week and hope you can all attend- it
will be very special! We also have move up day on Tuesday. We are very excited
about moving on to school soon!
Thanks,
Angwin

Chapple
Dear Chapple Families
Although much of our thoughts have been about the Nativity
last week, the class party and graduation, we have still managed to squeeze in
some other activities. We made humus with Mrs Kerr. We were reading the
Lighthouse Keeper’s Tea and it started an interesting conversation.
Dougal: In some countries when they say tea they mean dinner
or supper.
Angus: My grandpa and grandma say tea for dinner.
We read the story and became fascinated in the lighthouse
and flying fox and decided to make a model. We discussed what a
lighthouse is for.
Angus: So the boats can see the way they are going even with
the lights.
Peter: Needs lots of windows so he can see everywhere.
Kai: This is the bottom of the lighthouse.
Angus: They can see it because it is a bright colour.
Kai: And they can see it at night.
Dougal: So they can see more better even with the light.
Zeke: It’s the balcony, so he can come out and get the
fishes.
Kai: So when it’s a hot day and he has to have lunch he can
have it on the balcony.
The children had fun making the model and put a lot of
thought into the next phase of the model, where they would position the house
and flying fox. Toby made some fish and Erik made Mrs Grinding’s house.
If boys have transition visits to the Prince Alfred College
Prep School in week 8 they can come to the ELC as normal and we will transport
them up and down together if you wish.
Thanks for such a great turn out for the class party. The
children really enjoyed themselves, thanks for all your support and food.
Thanks
Chapple Room
Cooper
Hello Cooper Friends and Families
This week the children have been busily creating the Cooper Family
Tree. We have been gluing pieces of torn brown paper onto the trunk to
symbolise bark and we now have it on display in the room. We would love to have
family photos of all the Cooper children displayed on the tree over the coming
weeks so please don’t forget to bring one in.
This week we also went for a walk up to the PAC Christmas Tree on
display out the front of the Piper Pavilion. The class were fascinated by the
size of the tree and all of its decorations.
As we are heading into week 8 (last week of term) you will be
receiving information regarding the Summer Program from Miss C. Please note the
special dates highlighted on the program as your child may need to bring items
in from home to fully participate in the program.
Have a fabulous weekend

Edgerley
Dear Families
and Friends,
We have been
enjoying our time together this week, making, building, exploring, cooking,
discussing and learning many interesting things about ourselves and the wider
world.
The children
have been fascinated to find out more about the planets and we have drawing our
investigations to a close with some information gathering about space!
Our silkworms
are getting ready to make more cocoons… they are quite fat now. There are
already 4 cocoons that have been spun.
We have enjoyed
making gingerbread biscuits and lots of fun Christmas crafts.
Thank you again
for your ongoing support…
Please remember
our class party is next Thursday from 2:30pm..
Kind Regards,
Pip, Emma,
Rosalie and Ty

Chicken Pox and Shingles
Dear Parents,
Please note there has been a
confirmed case of Shingles as well as Chicken Pox in Year 5 with another
3 suspected cases of Chicken Pox yet to be confirmed in Year 2.
The varicella-zoster virus is
present in the shingles blister fluid. Direct contact with the blister fluid
can cause chickenpox in a non-immune person.
The PAC Health Centre have been in touch with the South
Australian Communicable Disease Control Branch (CDCB) to advise them of these
cases.
The CDCB have recommended that the school request that
students who are showing signs of slight fever and cold-like symptoms be kept
home from school in case they are in the early stages of the Varicella
infection. This especially applies to unimmunised children. Parents are
reminded to check their child’s immunisation status.
While the students with confirmed or suspected Chicken
Pox are Prep School students – it is recommended that parents closely monitor
students in all areas of the school including the ELC, Middle and Secondary school.
Good personal hygiene measures are also encouraged.

NATIVITY
What a wonderful day we all had on Friday sharing our special Christmas Nativity. We have been practicing and rehearsing since the beginning of term and are so thrilled to be able to finally share it with you! We loved performing and sharing the story of the first Christmas and we will probably still be singing these songs all the way to Christmas!!
Thank you to everyone who came to join us for the morning. We hope you all had as much fun as we did!
