Portfolios

Dear parents who have not yet returned their child’s portfolio, Each term staff work hard to document children’s learning and progress, we share this with children through their portfolios. A large number of Chapple room portfolios have not yet been returned and teachers would like to archive children’s work in them before the end of the term. If your child’s portfolio is still outstanding please pass it to Mrs McGee or Miss D at the start of next week. Thankyou Mel Bishop

Easter Bunny is on His Way!

Dear Parents, It is that time of year again when children start to look for signs that Easter Bunny is on his way. We are hoping that Easter Bunny might visit us on 15th of April for an Easter eggs hunt (if we are good!!!) Unfortunately our hunt is only for children who normally attend on a Friday. Children do enjoy bringing Easter eggs for their friends and are welcome to share some but we would ask that you follow our simple rules to avoid egg overload. Please only bring 1 small egg for each class member (it’s often easiest to buy a packet of tiny loose eggs) Please only let your child distribute eggs into our bunny baskets in class. Please choose nut free eggs. Children will not be allowed to eat any eggs until they have been taken home so that parents may regulate how much chocolate has been eaten. Children will be able to take their bunny baskets home on the last day of term, Friday 15th of April. Our annual Easter Bonnet parade will take place in term holidays on the 20th of April at 10.30 so get your thinking caps on! An empty upturned ice-cream container is always a good place to start!! Places for Term 3

In the next few weeks I will be sending out offers for places for new children for Term 3 this year. If your child is moving from Langley to Cooper or from Cooper to Edgerley and you require extra days or would like to change the current days you attend please see me as soon as possible. Jeanine

Mead Room Speech Screenings

Early next term Jan Hooper ,our speech therapist, will begin doing speech screenings for the children in Mead room. If your child has already had an assessment elsewhere or you do not wish them to be checked could you please let me know. Langley

Thank you to all our Grandies who came to visit us at kindy on Wednesday. We hope you all enjoyed our beautiful singing at the concert and had an opportunity to see all of the wonderful experiences we have while we are here. We know the Langley children enjoyed having you here. “I chased Granny. Granny said to me, “you might fall over!” but Granny hold my hand” said Lily.

“Nanny, we did a puzzle, we click our tongue, click, click, click, making cooking” said Izabella. “Neenie and Susie, saw Lily on the chair, some play dough and outside a big slide” said Felix. “Nonna, si (yes)!!” said Leonardo.

Mead

What an exciting day the Mead children had on Thursday. We caught a bus (a first time for many) from the ELC to the Festival Theatre, to a performance of 'The Instant Orchestra Workshop'. It was a highly interactive concert which had the children singing, dancing, role playing, instrument playing and even inventing our own original compositions! We all sat in a huge circle on cushions under a tent, and had a turn playing an anklung, a tuned bamboo rattle from Indonesia. The two lead performers, Martin and Nico, introduced us to a double bass and accordion too, and were wonderful at getting the children involved and capturing their attention. Martin and Nico said we were a fantastic orchestra - and we were great listeners too!

Cooper

On Thursday the Cooper students, teachers and mums set off on a bus to the Instant Orchestra Workshop. We loved this performance! Martin and Nico played instruments and had the children up and moving from the very beginning. They sang a very exciting and slightly scary pirate song, played along with a double bass and piano accordion and waved the magic paintbrush! Everyone in the audience had the chance to play an anklung (a tuned bamboo rattle from Indonesia) and together we formed a loud but tuneful instant orchestra! It was a lovely morning out made even better by the beautiful weather down by the Torrens.

A big thank you to Diana, Karen and Michelle for their great assistance on our trip.

Thank you to everyone that came along to Grandies Day. This is what some of the children had to say about their favourite part of the day...

We hope you enjoyed our beautiful singing voices and walking through our Sound Garden! Thank you all for donating the books to our centre and for an enjoyable morning.

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents, We have continued our exploration about information this week and discovered a new way to find out information. On Tuesday morning Langley children found a beautiful spider web with a spider in the centre that they shared with us. We spent a lot of time looking and observing. “We could get some bugs for it! “, suggested Louie, and with that the boys set off in the playground to find some bugs for the spiders breakfast. It wasn’t long before Louie was back with a caterpillar. “I found a slug” he said and then as the boys watched he dropped it gently onto the web from above. It stuck on the silvery strands and made the whole web quiver. We watched as the spider moved towards the caterpillar and started to eat it. The caterpillar didn’t like it one bit.

Two days later Luca rushed up to the teacher with an excited look on his face “I caught a butterfly” he exclaimed, opening his hands just a tiny bit .

“I think it’s a moth” said James

We decided that the butterfly wouldn’t like to stay in Luca’s hands so found him a clear container and added a piece of watermelon for him to eat. As the children watched the butterfly, with the now broken wing, walked over to the watermelon and stared to eat it with a long curly tongue. We discussed our discoveries in class and decided that we had found out two new pieces of information about insects.

- Spiders webs can be made of one hundred circles

- Butterfly tongues are curly

We thought about how we had discovered this new information.

“We noticed the spider web!” said Hugo

“Our eyes looked” added Aggie

One more way to find our information! I wonder if we can add any more to our list?

Grandies Day Thankyous

Dear Parents,

Please pass on our enormous thanks to all the Grandies and Great-Grandies that attended our annual Grandies Day. They made it a wonderful day for the children and it was thrilling to see how much interest they took in the inquiry the children involve themselves in at Kindergarten. We were overwhelmed with the unexpectedly large turn out and were so pleased that they could all take the time to spend the morning with us (one eighty-nine year old grandie even drove himself to the function, proving age is no barrier when the heart is willing!) Thanks to the very generous donations of all our grandparents (and super neighbours, Trevor and Ian!) we were able to purchase $1500 worth of books for the children’s library. These books will be covered in our upcoming working bee and distributed into classrooms so that the child whom the book has been purchased on behalf of can share it with their classmates before it goes onto the library shelves.

In the rush of the morning we did forget to make some very important thankyous.

*Thankyou to Mrs Emma McKenzie for coordinating Grandies Day again this year.

*Thankyou to Harry’s Mum, Vanessa, for the delicious kisses cupcakes that she prepared for all our Grandies (Vanessa, it was such a kind thought that made the staff feel so supported, you have officially been voted our cupcake queen!)

*Thankyou to Mr Rob Wagenfellar again this year for scones and cream, and the extra time he put in at work to make sure they were ready for our special guests.

*Thankyou to Duane and Megan from Festival Photos for managing to photograph fifty families in fifty minutes!

*Thankyou to Mrs McGee, Mrs Blake, Miss Jess and Mrs Lock for spending their afternoons preparing our environment and an extra special thanks to Mrs Lock for coming in on her day off!!

*And last but in no way least, a massive thankyou to our wonderful parent helpers on the day, Owen’s Mum Christine, Sophie’s Mum Karen, Eddie’s Mum Estelle, Max’s Mum Tabytha, Dougal, Daisy and Fergus’s Mum Chloe, Ethan’s Mum Jay, Jack and Molly’s Mum Sophie and Raphael’s Mum Louisa. Our book sale and morning tea would not have been able to occur without you.

Professional photos taken on the morning will be available on line in approximately two weeks. If Grandies filled in the e-mail box on their photo form they will receive an e-mail alert when their photos are ready to be viewed. We will also put details on our blog site and ask that parents forward the details to their respective grandies (at first peep yesterday they looked quite stunning!)

Working Bee

Dear Parents, We will be holding a short working bee in our art room on the 13th of April. We are looking for some parents who would be willing to help us cover some books and clean out a few old coffee jars. We will provide the tea and coffee (to drink, not to clean!!). Come along and meet a few other parents and help your children’s books find their ways onto our shelves. Puppy for Sale

One of our families have a new puppy that regretfully they are not able to keep. It is an 11 week old black male Schnoodle , vet checked , immunised and microchipped. If anyone is interested please contact the centre and we will pass on their contact details.

Enrolment for School

Please note that enrolment for PAC is not guaranteed by having a place in our ELC. If you would like your child to go on to the prep school you must do a separate enrolment (even for siblings)by contacting admissions on 83341200. Would any families who have received their offer of a place in the Prep School please return their forms asap to ensure their positions. Thankyou
