Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Familes and Friends,

Welcome to Term 4!

Over the last few weeks many children have shown great interest in the animals that the afternoon team have bought in from the Nature Education Centre. As a class, we talked about looking after an animal in our classroom and decided that we would love to take care and learn about a Tortoise. Before the Tortoise arrived, we wrote down what the children knew, had observed and thought about Tortoises.

Clementine – They walk
Angus – They have a shell
Rocco – They have claws

When the children arrived on Friday the Tortoise was in our classroom. For mat time the children were given the opportunity to touch the shell of the tortoise. We then asked them to tell us why they thought Tortoises needed a shell and what the shell felt like.

Emma – They have shells to protect themselves
Didier – Shell felt like a block of chocolate

We will be looking after the Tortoise for the next two weeks and are excited to learn more about it.

This week many of the children have continued to thread beads. This is yet again a great opportunity for them to practice their fine motor skills and is showing the children’s increasing capability to concentrate on completing a somewhat challenging activity.

Have a lovely weekend,

Cass and Liana
