Angwin

Dear Angwin Families,

We have had a super week in the Angwin room. Our pirate play has been extensive with pirate maps, lots of antics in the ship and we have enjoyed sharing stories about pirates. We have had interesting discussions about when were there real pirates and we have kept to the pirates from long ago, as in the stories we have shared. Our focus has been on being kind pirates, using kind words and actions! It has been interesting to set up a play space like this. The children have responded to the boundaries and agreements we have made and on the whole, the pirate ship has sailed through calm waters!

Our children have been fascinated to watch the Monarch caterpillar change into a pupa, and we have welcomed two very tiny caterpillars who we can observe and enjoy for a few more weeks as they munch up lots of milkweed leaves!

Our Harmony Day celebrations have provided a number of opportunities for us to discuss same and different, peace and harmony.. our paper chain joined together with all our names, symbolising how we all need to work together as a team and help each other as we learn and grow. The children have shared where their families have come from..

Jason: My family is from China.
Alina: My family is too
Ashton: My Dad comes from Canada
Daniel L: My family is from South Korea and China
James: I have a Yia Yia and a Papou.. they come from Greece
Daniel B: My family is from Australia
Mrs Rocca: I come from the Philippines

We discussed the different colours of our skin, how our blood is the same colour inside, just like apples can be all different colours on the outside but all the same on the inside.

Our class has enjoyed watching the rainbow birds (Rainbow Lorikeets) that live in our school environment. We have found them flying and collected their treasures… feathers that they leave behind. We went up to the big trees near the front oval and found the holes where they live. We met Mr Andary who showed us where he has seen them too. The children have been painting very colourful rainbow birds on our art easels this week.

Have a lovely weekend,
Kind regards
Pip and Coney
