Dear Parents,
Despite the wet and wild weather the Edgerley children have
managed to stay warm and busy this week. The addition of a dancing corner has
brought out the dance moves and groove in some of us, along with the donning
of wonderful costumes and glittery items. If any children have a favourite CD
they want to bring in to dance to, they are very welcome to bring one in!
The children are showing a growing interest in letters, what
shapes they are, the sounds they make and the correct names for them.
They have begun to make letters out of clay this week and we are heading
towards producing the whole alphabet for our classroom.
We are entering some discussions around special places - what a
special place for us is, and what our special place needs to make us feel
safe and comfortable. On our light table the children have been making some
safe places for animals. They have given great consideration to the design of
the animal's special places and what the needs of the animals were.
Ryan: "It's a cage for a cat. It's got supportings for the roof.
There's nowhere for the cat to escape. It's trapped. You just drop in the
food"
Rory: "There's 6 roosters, 2 pigs, 1 hedgehog and 1 goat. Roosters
like the rain so mine are sitting on the roof. They stay up all night on the
roof. They stay up and say cock-a-doodle-doo. The pigs house opens up so the
pigs can come out in the morning"
Charlie O: "My house makes all the animals get dry. The roof keeps them
dry"
Archie: "I made a big home for all the sheep. They like to stay
together"
There was great excitement on Tuesday when some of the children
noticed an interesting change in our resident stick insect, Mr Climby's,
appearance.
Rory: "He's taking his skin off"
Ryan: "Because he want to grow new skin"
Lexie: "He's shaving his skin off"
Will A: "His skin was too big for his body"
Isla also observed that Mr Climby's missing leg was "growing
longer", which is a big relief!
