Mead

Week 3 has come and gone!

On Monday we had four little visitors arrive in the Mead Room.

There were two little stripy caterpillars, and one big one – black, white and yellow stripes….. and one beautiful jade green chrysalis;

Spencer – a butterfly will come out of that.

By the end of the day another caterpillar had inched its way to the top of the enclosure, spun a tiny bit of silk and attached itself upside down.  Soon it had changed its shape until it looked like the letter J.   Then we noticed it had changed again!  Our caterpillar had changed into a chrysalis!

Ned – the caterpillar was hanging upside down like a bat!

By the end of the week our two little caterpillars weren’t so little anymore and their food had almost gone completely.

Ned – they ate all the leaves.

Will – they’re growing

Christopher – the little caterpillars are growing.

Wilbur – I don’t know why they’re stripy.. they like to eat, chomp, chomp, chomp.

Kian – they crawl on the ground, they get big and big and giant.

We can hardly wait until we see the butterflies emerge from their chrysalis!

We investigated other examples of change through the week aswell:

Colour Mixing with paint

Lola – the blue and the yellow can change to green!

Facial Expressions

We had a lot of fun and much laughter when we transformed our expressions to represent surprised, cranky, happy and sad.

Have a great weekend!
